Hannah Rowan

b. 1990, Brighton, UK

Hannah Rowan is a British artist based in New York. Rowan’s multidisciplinary practice includes sculpture, performance, video and sound, often reflecting on the liquid relationship between bodies of water and geological and ecological systems. She combines a range of processes that includes glass blowing, life casting, ceramics and lost-wax cast metals to explore ideas of embodiment, impermanence, transformation and porous boundaries. Her practice is informed by site-based research in locations ranging from the Arctic Circle to the Atacama Desert.

Rowan studied MA Sculpture at the Royal College of Art and BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, both in London. She has had solo exhibitions with C+N Canepaneri Gallery (Milan) Sebastien Bertrand (Geneva), Belo Campo (Lisbon) Assembly Point and White Crypt, (both London). She has recently exhibited in groups shows with Informality, Annely Juda Fine Art, Projektraum (all London), Arusha Gallery (Bruton), Contemporary Sculpture Fulmer, Andrew Reed and Below Grand (both New York City), A Pick Gallery (Turin), C+N Canepaneri Gallery (Milan), Nieuw Dakota and Mediamatic (both Amsterdam). Rowan’s work has been supported by Arts Council England and is part of the Anthropocene Collection at The Museum Of Science (Trento). Her works and writing have been published in ESSE Magazine, Where the Leaves Fall, The Earth Issue, Sonic Acts, Inside Art, UMBIGO Magazine and Mater.
