Tales of Transformation

Tube Gallery is delighted to announce that we’ll be participating in the upcoming Art Düsseldorf art fair in Germany. We will be part of the curatorial program, Tales of Transformation, and will showcase the works of British artist Lydia Blakeley.

Curated by Linda Peitz, the Tales of Transformation section features a selection of eight galleries presenting individual exhibitions by artists whose practices and artworks explore themes of the environment—its beauty, brutality, and mysticism. “Today, it is not just about utilizing the environment but embracing our responsibility to protect it, engage with it thoughtfully, and contribute to transformation processes toward a climate-neutral society.”

About the Proposal

Lydia Blakeley’s work explores speculative realities through painting, incorporating sculpture and installation elements. She examines the intersection of reality and fiction, influenced by technology, isolation, and historical socio-political shifts. Her art reflects on worldbuilding, escapism, and the rise of spiritualism in response to global crises. Through painting, she navigates contemporary anxieties, questioning its role in a digital era and its power to preserve time and perception.

About the Artist

Lydia Blakeley’s paintings translate everyday observations into striking works that critique aspirational culture, particularly as seen on social media. Drawing from smartphone and laptop images, she explores themes of self-presentation, status, and desirability through tightly composed, polished paintings. Her work freezes fleeting trends, offering reflection on modern visual overload. Since earning her MFA in 2019, Blakeley has exhibited widely, including at the Hayward Gallery, Southwark Park Galleries, and Hauser & Wirth.
