About the Exhibition
Victoria Cantons’ solo exhibition The Hour Before Sunrise / La Hora Bruja invites viewers into a reflective and emotionally charged space where text and imagery intersect. Through the use of text as a pictorial element, Cantons encourages personal interpretation, allowing each viewer to engage with her work on a deeper level.
The exhibition explores the relationship between image and word, body and space, presence and absence. Highlights include textual paintings such as Six Words (Hope, Faith, Love, Trust, Dream, Believe), 2023, and Untitled (Words to Live By), 2025, where repeated words create visual and conceptual depth; portraits like One Day I Will Laugh About This (Transgender Woman), 2022, which explore identity through fragmented figures; still lifes and flowers, including Untitled (Breathe Hope), 2023, reflecting on beauty and transience; and the video piece Clinging to My Own Beliefs / Belly Button Fuzz, 2017, which adds a temporal layer to the narrative. Through these works, Cantons crafts a landscape where viewers become active participants in a conversation about memory, identity, and the passage of time. The exhibition at Tube Gallery continues the creative partnership between Cantons and Dietzel, promising an engaging exploration of contemporary themes through a deeply personal lens.
